The increasing importance of decentralised, consumer-oriented energies on the way to decarbonisation requires innovative solutions and a focused approach. As an energy-intensive company, we are taking up the challenge to secure the medium to long-term future of Wiegand-Glas and our environment. To this end, we are bundling all of our initiatives, projects and investments in the field of energy for its generation, storage and transport in our Energy division, enabling us to act more efficiently, utilise synergies and achieve progress more quickly. The focus here is on the construction and operation of our own energy generation plants from renewable sources.

Sun & Wiegand

A more sustainable production and setting the course for the saving of our resources is the idea that Wiegand-Glas has been pursuing for decades. A small step on the way to decarbonisation was done back in 2020 with the commissioning of our first photovoltaic system at the Neuhaus am Rennweg site. To this end, the roof of a warehouse in the logistics centre of our glass plant in Ernstthal was covered with modules to generate almost 650 kWp of electricity. Further PV roof systems for 8,000 kWp are under construction at our Großbreitenbach plant, with a further 5,000 kWp in planning.

Wind & Wiegand

At Wiegand-Glas, we firmly believe that a sustainable future is based on renewable energy sources. That's why we are actively committed to promoting wind power. Our plans include developing wind energy projects, carefully selecting sites to maximise efficiency and minimise environmental impact, and working with communities and stakeholders to ensure that our projects are in line with the needs of local people.

Hydrogen & Wiegand

We are at an early stage of research and development in the field of hydrogen. We are trying to find out whether and in what form hydrogen can play a role for the container glass industry as a storage medium or as a fuel through our involvement in various research initiatives. Here, too, we are always thinking outside the box and always have the potential of other fuels (e.g. ammonia) in mind.
