Climate neutral bottle for F. W. Langguth

"The world is ready for a greener wine bottle!" was the ambitious vision of the joint project of Wiegand and F. W. Langguth with the aim of creating an ecologically particularly sustainable bottle. The result is the Eco2Bottle product line – a wine bottle with a greatly reduced carbon footprint and complete climate neutrality by offsetting the remaining emissions.

Eco2Bottle – the greener wine bottle

Inspired by a student project at the Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences, initial ideas were discussed in autumn 2019 between the family-owned companies Wiegand-Glas and F. W. Langguth to establish an ecologically sustainable product line. This project has now reached its conclusion with the launch of the first wine in an Eco2Bottle. Compared to a standard wine bottle1) the Eco2Bottle has a 30% smaller carbon footprint. This reduction is made possible by a guaranteed use of at least 92.5% waste glass, the greatly reduced weight of the bottle (15% lighter than standard bottles) and an optimised packaging specification for better utilisation of loading space. By purchasing 100% green electricity from Austrian hydropower, the footprint is further reduced. The remaining emissions were calculated together with Climate Partner and then offset by supporting sustainability projects.

The result is a climate-neutral wine bottle that is immediately recognisable to consumers on the supermarket shelf thanks to its own branding.
