Dr. Schneider Cup 2019: Wiegand-Glas triumphs
The traditional indoor tournament for company teams was organised by Dr. Schneider for the second time this year and has confirmed its reputation as the largest and most important tournament for company teams in the region. In total, 20 teams from the entire district of Kronach took part again this year and the hall was very well attended throughout the whole day. This year, for the third time after 2015 and 2017, our team was able to secure the coveted trophy for itself.
The group phase
In the first group game, our team was able to beat the Lear team with its strong defensive skills 2-0 after initial goals from René Schubart and Erik Neubauer. In the second group match against Loewe's team, things went much better in terms of play, and we deservedly won 5-0 with two goals each from Dominik Zwosta and René Schubart and a goal from André Scholz. Even the all-stars of the BSC Finanzberatung team from Kronach, peppered with some former Bavarian and regional league players, didn't have a chance at 4-0. René Schubart, André Scholz and Dominik Zwosta each scored two goals. The last group game against Heinz-Glas' team was the final game for the group victory. This duel of glassmakers was a clear win for our team with 5-0. Two goals each were scored by René Schubart and Stefan Schirmer and one by Erik Neubauer. With 12 points and a goal difference of 16:0 the Wiegand-Glas team dominated the group. Our goalkeeper Aaron Sieber also played a large part in this clean win with some spectacular saves. He even blocked a shot from the penalty box against Heinz-Glas.
The quarter-finals
In the quarter finals our team faced Sparkasse Kulmbach-Kronach and quickly took the lead 2-0 with goals from René Schubart and André Scholz. Although the Sparkasse brought the score to 2-1 for a short time, Dominik Zwosta gave us a decisive lead of 3-1, with Stefan Schirmer bringing the score to 4-1. With the score reaching 4-2 just before the end of the game, the bankers were only able to make a cosmetic change to their results.
The semi-final
Our team faced off against Stadtwerke Kronach in the semi-finals, and here too it was quickly clear who would leave the pitch victorious. Dominik Zwosta brought the score to 1-0. Scoring in quick succession, Erik Neubauer, Simon Tröbs and René Schubart raised the final result to 4-0.
A well-deserved tournament victory for Wiegand-Glas
The final against Scholz from Gundelsdorf was much more exciting. For the first time in the tournament, our team conceded a goal in spite of the superiority of their game, which René Schubart was able to make up for shortly before half-time. In the second round it was finally up to the youngster Erik Neubauer to get our team in the lead at 2-1, which René Schubart increased to 3-1 with the next attack. One minute before the game's end, André Scholz finally sealed the deal and brought the score to 4-1. A goal raising the score to 4-2 in the last second had no impact on the final result.
At the award ceremony, our team was acknowledged by all sides for its outstanding performance and its well-deserved tournament victory. In addition, our player René Schubart showed himself to be a great sportsman by giving the cup for the best scorer to the young Felix Maurer, although both scored eleven goals. All in all, it was a very successful day for our team, which must now defend its title next year. Special praise also goes to our supervisor Valentin Ebert, who took care of all organisational matters and thereby actively supported our team.
