Welcome to Wiegand-Glas

A new phase in the lives of 31 apprentices
A new phase in the lives of 31 apprentices

A warm welcome to our new apprentices

On 2 September 2019, a new stage of life began at Wiegand-Glas business group for a total of 31 apprentices. Within the scope of the welcome event, we were once again able to welcome many young people who will start their professional career at Wiegand-Glas at the beginning of their training in 2019. The new apprentices will start an apprenticeship or a dual work and study course in the commercial and technical fields in the plants Steinbach am Wald, Großbreitenbach, Schleusingen and Ernstthal this year. At the beginning of the event, the apprentices were welcomed by the company management, personnel management, human resources managers and trainers of the Wiegand-Glas corporate group.

An apprenticeship is an investment in the future of young people and the company

This year, Managing Director Oliver Wiegand welcomed the new apprentices, also on behalf of his cousin, Nikolaus Wiegand. Oliver Wiegand introduced the family business with the help of our company presentation and also went into the special features of each location. He promised the apprentices a secure position at Wiegand-Glas after their apprenticeship, provided that they perform well and integrate into the team and company. This was followed by a small round of introductions, during which the new apprentices and our trainers were able to get to know each other a little better. After a group picture, all participants were then able to get an impression of the plant in Steinbach am Wald through a guided tour of the factory. The day was rounded off with a joint lunch in the canteen.

Oliver Wiegand and Ingbert Löffler wished the new apprentices good luck and success during their apprenticeships and, as is customary every year, an enjoyable and instructive apprentice team development weekend at the Knock Youth Education Centre in Teuschnitz.

This marked the 5th time that all 1st year apprentices at the Wiegand-Glas corporate group had the opportunity to get to know each other better during the team development days at the Knock in Teuschnitz from 5 – 6 September 2019 and to learn about important success factors for teamwork through fun and games.

To start it off, the apprentices worked out and presented their goals, expectations, wishes, and also rules for their time together at the Knock. The first day was then characterised by group work on the topics "Mutual trust", "Successful communication in a team" and "Successful cooperation as a team". Through team exercises such as "blind picture description", in which one group drew a given picture according to the instructions of the other group, the so-called "Tower of Power", or overcoming a "spider's web", the trainees' personal skills and abilities were put to the test. The first day at the Knock was rounded off with a campfire.

On the second day, the focus was on the topic of "training" but also on how to deal with conflicts in the workplace or at vocational school. Both apprentices and trainers prepared presentations about the training at Wiegand-Glas. In the final round, all those present agreed it had been two great and also interesting days at the Knock.

At this point we would like to thank all the trainers for their personal commitment, their preparations and the enthusiasm on site.
