Why build our own recycling plant?

As a result of current political decisions and measures, our PET customers are also increasingly opting for high percentages of recycled materials in their products. In order to meet these new standards, we are currently buying in externally processed granulate. Since this is highly dependent on market price fluctuations and differences in quality between suppliers, we have decided to produce the recyclate ourselves in future.

Preliminary planning / Site selection / Construction phase

The decision to build a recycling plant similar to the one at the glass plant in Steinbach am Wald had already been made at the beginning of 2017. This time, however, it was plastics that required processing. After the dimensions of the plant had been clarified, a suitable, free piece of green space had to be found at our location in Großbreitenbach. After the various possible plots of land had been sounded out, a suitable location for the new plant was then chosen. The employee car park north of the car dealership in the industrial estate, which was built about six years ago, had to make way for the new building shortly after the end of the warranty period.

By the end of 2020 our new recycling plant should then be fully operational and supplying regranulate for our own production

After the planner was commissioned in December 2018 for the approval work and measurements, the ground investigations, surveying work and the preparation of a fire protection concept were carried out in parallel.

At the beginning of September we received the long awaited approval notice.  The order was placed with the company Max Bögl, which was busy at the same time with the construction of our new glass factory in Schleusingen. Since the end of November, both the building and the associated outdoor facilities have been growing day by day and the first machines and aggregates will be delivered from June 2020, as scheduled. The building will be completed by the end of Q3 in 2020.
