rPET quota on the rise - also in our PET products

The use of recycled PET (rPET) is becoming increasingly important in the production of PET beverage bottles. The average share of rPET has increased by more than 10 per cent in Germany within the last two years, according to the study "Aufkommen und Verwertung von PET-Getränkeflaschen in Deutschland 2021" (Volume and recycling of PET beverage bottles in Germany 2021) by Gesellschaft für Verpackungsmarktforschung (GVM). According to the study, the rPET quota was 44.8 % in 2021, and the trend is still rising.

Valuable resource protection through our PET recycling plant

This trend towards a higher recyclate usage rate is also reflected in our preform and bottle portfolio at PET-Verpackungen GmbH Deutschland. While the recycled content in our products was still 41.4 percent in 2021, it was already 46.4 percent one year later. Due to the continuing high demand for recyclate, our PET recycling plant at Großbreitenbach has been working at full capacity since it started in October 2020. Most of the PET flakes processed there come from the German deposit system. Our customers appreciate our recyclate, especially because of the continuously very good quality, particularly in the parameters of colour, purity and viscosity.
