Experience the transformation of glass production in project “ZeroCO2Glas”

How can container Glass be produced in a carbon-neutral way? This question is the focus of Wiegand-Glas’s transformation process. An important milestone in this process is the “ZeroCO2Glas” research project which has been funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy since the beginning of 2022. The aim is to fundamentally rethink glass production from melting to shaping and to significantly reduce or even completely avoid CO2 emissions.

Transparent insight into the model melting process at IPGR in Aachen

Together with management, sales and customer representatives, we visited IPGR in Aachen to get an idea of the project's progress on a semi-industrial scale. In his technical presentation, Dr. Dominik Orzol, managing director of IPGR, provided exciting insights into technological progress and the next steps in development.
Nikolaus Wiegand and Karsten Fuchs provided further impulses on the challenges facing the glass industry and sustainable packaging solutions. The open exchange with customers and partners showed once again that climate-neutral glass production can only succeed through close cooperation along the entire value chain.
