Culture of responsibility

Our approach to sustainability

For Wiegand-Glas, responsibility means preserving the company's success and our environment in a sustainable manner. As an industrial company, we take responsibility for the products and services we offer our customers. And we feel committed to our employees, the careful use of resources and our social environment. For us, sustainability also means foresight and responsibility for present and future generations. As a manufacturer of PET and glass containers, we at Wiegand are striving every day to produce the right packaging solutions for our customers' sensitive products in harmony with people, the region and the environment.

Integrated management system

Through our integrated approach, the methods and instruments of the certified management systems for quality, product protection, environment, energy and occupational safety are combined in a uniform structure. This gives us clear guidelines for documentation, internal audits, the presentation of the company group to our various stakeholders and centrally managed measures for dealing with open issues. In this way, we continue to develop the processes and continuously improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Food safety

Verantwortung und und Lebensmittelsicherheit bei Wiegand-Glas

As a manufacturer and supplier of food packaging to customers in the beverage and food industry, we take a high level of responsibility for the safety of the end consumer. Therefore, we regularly carry out risk analysis along the processes for the production of packaging and in the mechanical, spatial and staff environment according to defined evaluation schemes. This allows us to identify any weaknesses, which we promptly rectify with suitable measures. The effectiveness of our system for ensuring the food safety of our products is regularly verified and validated.

Energy management with system

Our energy management system anchors the continuous improvement of our energy-related performance indicators in our organisation and along our value chains. The aim is to create the maximum value from every kilowatt hour. The improvement of energy-related performance indicators has to be demonstrated for each audit. If this is not possible, it has to be justified why no improvement was possible. With this in mind, we are constantly examining many possibilities for energy optimisation: for example in the choice of technologies, drives and raw materials, as well as in production planning and much more. The careful use of energy and resources has been one of our most important success factors for generations.

Defined ethical principles

Verantwortung und Ethik bei Wiegand-Glas

Due to our participation on the internationally recognised Sedex platform (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange), we are committed to greater transparency in the basic pillars of ethics: workers' rights, health and safety, environment and business ethics. We have checked our processes by SMETA audits in these areas. This way, we do not only identify weak points, but also promptly react with countermeasures. The result is released on the Sedex platform for interested customers on request. This is our contribution to the worldwide observance of human rights.

Science Based Targets

We have been avoiding and/or reducing greenhouse gas emissions for many years with the help of innovative technologies and process improvements. We have further set ourselves specific reduction targets up to 2036 with Science Based Targets, taking 2021 as the starting point. The validation of these targets by the Science Based Targets initiative commits us to reducing our emissions in a way that fulfils the requirements of the Paris Agreement and thus limits global warming to 1.5 °C.
