Eco2rail - Soda by rail to Steinbach am Wald

The recommissioning of our own rail infrastructure was an important step for Wiegand Logistics towards climate-friendly transport in 2023. Since December 2022, we have been successfully handling weekly finished transports of goods by rail. Since June 2023, not only palletised goods can now be loaded. Raw materials can also be accepted. The "Soda by rail to Steinbach" project was born. There is a complex cross-departmental concept between our suppliers, purchasing, DB Cargo and Wiegand Logistics behind this. They all work together in order to shift the previous road solution to rail.

Climate-friendly transport - we are on board.

The challenging project has now been successfully completed after trial unloading. Since September , we have received soda ash by rail in special dust wagons with a payload of up to 56 tonnes. One wagon delivery replaces two road transports. All upstream and downstream truck transports are eliminated. The raw material is delivered directly by rail from our supplier to our batch house.
